A very Happy New Year my lovelies. Apologies for my tardiness, I took a bit of an unintentional break over the silly season. Not only is it a hectic time of year but admittedly I was in a slump and not feeling very creative.
I can’t promise that it won’t happen again, I am still struggling to find my mail mojo. I think it is something that a lot of us seem to go through. I envy those that consistently churn out amazing mail, where do they find the time?!
To me, the easiest part is writing the letter…it’s all the other bits & pieces that take me so long to complete. I find I procrastinate and do anything but what I am meant to be doing when I am in a bit of a slump.
Sometimes I wish we could strip away some of the hoopla around happy mail and bring it back to basics. At the core of it, it is about the connections and friendships you have made with your penpals and sharing your lives with each other.
It’s not about who is the most creative, who makes the best flipbooks etc…don’t get me wrong, they are super inspiring. Plus on a social media platform like Instagram/Pinterest etc it is all about the visual. No one is interested in your boring letter on its own.
I would love to try and start a bit of a snail mail movement, a #backtobasics for your more pared down version of happymail. That’s not to say all your mail should be on the plainer side because when you’re inspired to create a mini masterpiece you should totally do it!
I’m going to try and put less pressure on myself this year to keep up with the incredible snail mailers that I am in awe of. I will continue to admire their brilliance and envy their ability to keep knocking it out of the park. I just need to accept that I don’t have the time or the motivation to be at their level.
And that is ok…
I started this blog to share my love of snail mail etc with you all and I hope to inspire. But I wonder, if I sometimes feel inadequate looking at what others create do you guys feel that way too?
What would you like to see more of this year? What are your interests, what are you passionate about? Please tell me, I would love to know your thoughts and what I can do to bring a little sparkle to your day.
I hope this post wasn’t a downer, I wanted to be honest and keep it real.
I still have a love for all things snail mail and will keep on keepin’ on.
So here’s to fresh beginnings and new starts, I hope you all have a fabulous year ahead.
